Compass is a real estate brokerage that offers advanced technology features and services to its agents. Compass is owned by one corporate entity and does not operate franchises in the US.
Agents join Compass and gain access its suite of services. Compass provides traditional real estate brokerage services as well as marketing and advertising, listing coordination, transaction coordination, legal services, and office space. Compass also offers additional resources to agents such as bridge loans and support on home improvement services through its Concierge offerings.
Similar to most traditional brokerages, real estate commissions charged to buyers and sellers working with Compass negotiated on a case-by-case basis with agents.
Compass is privately held.
According to most public sources, Compass' commission splits with agents vary and are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
As of late 2020, Compass had over 17,000 agents.
Compass reduced headcount by roughly 15% in March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to a number of brokerage acquisitions, Compass acquired Modus, a real estate closing platform, in October of 2020 and Contactually, a real estate CRM, in February of 2019.
